Welcome to the new Super Soaper's Calculator. System requirements: Currently, only Windows is supported. This application requires a minimal amount of drive space, and should run on all 32 bit Windows PC platforms. How to install: Insert the CD into your drive, run Setup.exe, and follow the directions on your screen. To create a new recipe: Click on Recipe -> New to ensure that no oils are shown in the list box. For each oil in your recipe, click on the "Add oil..." button and a dialog will appear prompting for the name of the oil and the sap value. You can choose from the list at left or if the oil is not listed you may enter the name, sap value, and density in the text boxes on the right hand side of the dialog. Where it prompts for "Amount to add", enter the quantity in whatever units of measurement you're using (ounces, grams, pounds, etc). Then click "Add". The oil will be shown in the listbox along with its sap value, density, and quantity. Note: do not include fragrance oils in the recipe as they are not saponifiable. If you make a mistake and want to remove an oil from your recipe, select it and click on the "Remove oil" button. Or if you want to clear everything and start over, click on the "Clear all" button. After you have entered all of your oils into the list, you should specify the percentage of overfatting in the appropriate text box. If you are using a lye solution, be sure to check the "Use lye solution" checkbox and indicate the strength of the solution by entering the percentage weight to weight of lye. If you are adding 60% w/w sodium lactate to your recipe, be sure to select the "Add sodium lactate" checkbox and indicate the percentage (up to 3% is recommended) for your batch. You have the option of measuring by weight or by volume. Be careful with the by volume measurement, as lye invariably contains spaces between the grains that makes an accurate volume measurement difficult. Also, if you are using oils for which the density is unknown, the by volume option will not be available. When your settings are correct, click the button corresponding to your choice of caustic: NaOH if you are using sodium hydroxide (a.k.a. caustic soda) or KOH if you are using potassium hydroxide (caustic potash). Most soaps are made with NaOH. The required amounts of lye and liquid (i.e. water, milk, etc) will be shown at the bottom. Whatever units of measurement you used for your oils will be the same units of measurement that these values are displayed in. You may save, open, and print your recipes by clicking on the Open, Save, Save As, and Print items in the Recipe menu. This works just like the File menu on most standard applications. If you have new oils that are not in the list, you can easily add them. In the program's install path is a file named fats.dat. It is a plain text file and can be edited in Notepad. Simply add the name of the oil, then a comma, then its sap value, comma, then its specific gravity (if this is unknown, just put 3 question marks) to the list. Close and restart Super Soaper's Calculator, making sure to save any changes to your recipe, and the new oil will now be available in the list. Any questions can be forwarded to sales@eknent.com
